TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Eric Quill scored twice and Mamadou Diallo
got his league-leading 17th goal as the Tampa Bay Mutiny beat D.C.
United 3-0 Tuesday night.
Carlos Valderrama got his 19th assist on Quill's second goal,
tying United's Marco Etcheverry for the league record.
Valderrama found Quill splitting D.C. United's defense in the
46th minute for Tampa Bay's final goal.
Diallo sent a shot from 18 yards that deflected into the net off
the left post in the 26th minute. He also setup Quill's first goal
in the 37th minute during a 2-on-1 break.
D.C. United, the defending league champions, have an MLS-worst
4-12-5 record and have allowed 42 goals. It was just the fifth time
in 17 meetings United lost to Tampa Bay.
The game was stopped 34 minutes into the first half because of
lightning associated with a heavy thunderstorm. Some of the
fireworks for a postgame display went off after a nearby lightning
strike.
The contest was resumed after an 86-minute delay.
