LOS ANGELES (AP) Ezra Hendrickson scored in the 44th minute as
the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0 at the Rose
Bowl on Saturday night.
The Galaxy (1-2-0) avoided their first 0-3 start since the 1997
season, while Colorado (0-2-1) is the only team in Major League
Soccer that hasn't won a game this season.
Defender Greg Vanney assisted on the goal, sending a 40-yard
pass to Hendrickson toward the right corner of the penalty area.
Goalkeeper Adin Brown rushed out to clear the ball away, but
Hendrickson beat him to it, scoring into an empty net.
Los Angeles' Matt Reis recorded the shutout. Reis replaced
regular Kevin Hartman, who gave up five goals in two games.
The victory extended the Galaxy's winning streak to nine over
Colorado at the Rose Bowl. The Rapids haven't won in Pasadena since
a 2-1 win in 1997.
