SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Dwayne DeRosario and Zak Ibsen scored second-half goals to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 3-2 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.
Troy Dayak opened the scoring for San Jose (2-2-1) in the 27th
minute off a feed from Jeff Agoos. Dayak has scored five of his six
career goals against the Revolution.
A defensive miscue by New England led to San Jose's second goal.
Revolution goalie Juergen Sommer collided with teammate Rusty
Pierce while leaping for a crossing pass. DeRosario scrambled after
the loose ball and scored into an empty net in the 71st minute.
Eight minutes later, Sommer made a diving block of a shot by
Ibsen. But Ibsen followed up with a shot that resulted in San
Jose's third goal.
The Revolution (0-5-0) mounted strong attacks in the last two
minutes. Defender Mauricio Wright scored in the 88th minute.
San Jose defender Wade Barrett knocked the ball into his own net
after goalkeeper Joe Cannon deflected a penalty kick by New
England's Johnny Torres.
