EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) Petter Villegas' goal in the final
seconds capped a late three-goal rally as the New York-New Jersey
MetroStars beat the D.C. United 3-2 Saturday night.
Clint Mathis scored in the 80th minute, Rodrigo Faria tied the
game in the 88th minute and Villegas scored the winner in the 90th
minute.
The victory was the third straight for the MetroStars (4-1-1),
who moved into a tie for first place in the Eastern Division with
Miami.
Jaime Moreno scored two goals for D.C. United (3-2).
Trailing 2-0 in the 80th minute, Mathis scored his sixth goal of
the season from close range.
Faria scored from close range in the 88th minute. Mathis and
Alex Comas assisted on Faria's first MLS goal.
Villegas scored the winning goal from a difficult right angle,
slipping his shot across the goal mouth.
D.C. United took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Moreno in the
33rd minute. Moreno slipped his shot just inside the left post
after a MetroStars defender was called for a handball.
Moreno scored his second goal in the 52nd minute. He has 14
goals in 18 career games against the MetroStars.
