KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Onandi Lowe, a Jamaican National Team player making his MLS debut, scored in injury time to give Kansas City a 1-0 victory over New York-New Jersey on Thursday night, breaking the Wizards' three-game losing streak.
Chris Klein sent a crossing pass to Lowe, who blasted a shot past goalkeeper Tim Howard in the 92nd minute.
Lowe, who signed with the Wizards on Wednesday, was the 2000 Jamaican Player of the Year. He previously played for Port Vale of the English second division.
The Wizards controlled play almost the entire match and outshot
the MetroStars 20-8.
Kansas City had an opportunity to take the lead in the 77th minute when Matt McKeon was able to connect with Kerry Zavagnin's corner kick, but his header glanced off the post and was cleared away.
Kansas City (4-4-1) moved into sole possession of second place
in the Western Division. The MetroStars (6-3-1) remained in second
place in the Eastern Division.
