CHICAGO (AP) -- Zak Ibsen scored in the 90th minute to help the San Jose Earthquakes tie the Chicago Fire 1-1 on Saturday.
The Earthquakes capitalized on a poor defensive effort in the closing minutes by Chicago as Landon Donovan passed back to Ibsen, who lifted a 25-yard shot past Zach Thornton for his second goal of the season.
The Fire matched the MLS record 15-game home unbeaten streak
held by San Jose. The Fire, who are 3-0-1 at Soldier Field this
season, are 13-0-2 in their last 15 home games since losing to the
New England Revolution on May 20, 2000. The tie snapped the Fire's
eight-game home winning streak.
Chicago opened the scoring the 56th minute. Hristo Stoitchkov's
corner kick was headed away from a leaping Joe Cannon by Wade
Barrett. With Cannon out of position, Andrew Lewis scored with a
low kick from eight yards.
Despite struggling to move the ball past midfield during the
first 10 minutes, the Fire forced Cannon to save several close
shots in the first half. The tie was Cannon's second of the season.
