SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Landon Donovan scored two goals to lead
the San Jose Earthquakes to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles
Galaxy on Saturday night.
San Jose (7-2-3) increased its franchise-record unbeaten streak
to nine games. The Earthquakes are 6-0-3 since playing Kansas City
to a scoreless tie on April 28.
Donovan opened the scoring in the 30th minute. He took a nice
pass from Ronnie Ekelund outside of the penalty box, drove through
two defenders, faked goalkeeper Matt Reis to the ground and
left-footed the ball into the net from 8 feet.
The Earthquakes took a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute on a goal by
Ian Russell.
Manuel Lagos sent a pass from outside the penalty box to
Russell, who headed it between two defenders. Reis, diving,
partially deflected the shot but couldn't keep it out of the net.
The Galaxy (5-4-3) closed within a goal in the 66th minute on a
diving header by midfielder Sasha Victorine.
Cobi Jones delivered a pass from the deep right corner and
Victorine scored from the right side of the net.
Donovan scored his second goal in the 90th minute on a shot from
20 yards.
The loss was the first of the season for Reis, whose record
slipped to 5-1-3.
