PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- Marvin Quijano, Cobi Jones, Brian Ching and Sasha Victorine scored as the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Kansas City Wizards 4-0 Wednesday night.
The victory put Los Angeles (6-4-3) three points behind first place San Jose in Major League Soccer's Western Division.
Kansas City (5-6-1) lost its second consecutive match.
Quijano and Jones scored nine minutes apart in the first half. Quijano's 10-yard shot in the 17th minute off Mauricio Cienfuegos' quick pass beat reserve goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi inside the left post.
Oshoniyi played in place of Tony Meola, who aggravated a pulled
abdominal muscle in Saturday's 5-1 loss at Miami. Meola had started
the Wizards' 11 previous matches.
Jones made a solo run and fired a 26-yard line drive that Oshoniyi tipped, but couldn't control the ball.
Jones, who was playing with a strained left groin, left the game in the 33rd minute.
Ching replaced Jones and scored his first MLS goal on a 6-yard
header in the 73rd minute. Victorine finished the scoring with a
15-yard shot in the 87th minute.
Los Angeles goalkeeper Matt Reis made three saves to earn his
fourth shutout.
Wizards forward Francisco Gomez received a red card in the 56th minute.
Galaxy defender Alexi Lalas made his first appearance since April 21. Lalas missed the past nine matches with a sprained ligament in his left knee.
