WASHINGTON (AP) -- Abdul Thompson Conteh scored in the 58th minute to lift D.C. United to a 1-1 tie with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night.
Imad Baba scored for the Rapids (2-8-5), whose winless streak was extended to eight games at 0-5-3. Colorado has not won since May 12.
The United (5-8-1) are 2-6-1 in their past nine games.
Midfielder Carlos Valderrama and goalkeeper Scott Garlick, acquired by the Rapids in a six-player trade with Tampa Bay on Thursday, made their Colorado debuts.
The game, which followed a 2-0 victory by the Washington Freedom
over the Carolina Courage in the first match of a WUSA-MLS
doubleheader, drew 30,271. On May 12, a doubleheader featuring the
Freedom and United attracted 36,528.
Colorado took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute on Baba's first goal
of the season when he took a loose ball just outside the penalty
area, dribbled around a defender and sent a right-footed shot that
surprised Mike Ammann, who didn't react until the ball was by him.
Conteh's team-high ninth goal tied when he collected a
right-side pass from Jaime Moreno, pulled Garlick out and down and
scored into an empty net from 6 yards out.
