EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- D.C. United's Carey Talley scored into his own goal in the 86th minute to give the New York-New Jersey MetroStars a 2-1 victory Saturday.
Talley, who tied the game in the 58th minute, accidentally
redirected Rodrigo Faria's shot into the D.C. United net.
The MetroStars (9-7-3) opened the scoring in the 6th minute on
midfielder Billy Walsh's goal off a rebound.
New York-New Jersey lost Roy Myers to a knee injury in the 28th
minute. An MRI exam Saturday night showed Myers tore his anterior
cruciate ligament. He is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Steve Shak, the first overall pick in the 2000 SuperDraft,
took over her Myers.
The own goal, D.C.'s first of the season, dropped United to
6-12-1.
The MetroStars climbed within nine points of first-place Miami
in the Eastern Division. The Fusion travel to Giants Stadium on
August 4 as part of a three-game road trip.
