DENVER (AP) -- Jamar Beasley scored in the 40th minute as the
Chicago Fire rallied to tie the Colorado Rapids 1-1 in 100-degree
heat Saturday.
Colorado's Marcelo Balboa opened the scoring in the 7th minute
with a header off a pass from midfielder Imad Baba. Chicago
goalkeeper Zach Thornton could not reach the shot just inside the
left post.
Beasley took advantage of a Rapids' miscommunication in the 40th
minute. Colorado, thinking the play was offside, left Beasley wide
open. He accepted a pass from Dema Kovalenko and scored past
Colorado goalkeeper Scott Garlick.
Both teams had scoring chances late in the game and in overtime,
but were clearly slowed by the stifling heat.
Chicago (11-5-4) played in its eighth overtime game. Colorado
(5-9-7) has played in seven overtime games, and all have ended in
ties.
