WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rodrigo Faria had a goal and an assist to lead the New York-New Jersey MetroStars to a 2-1 victory over D.C. United on Wednesday night.
Faria scored in the 10th minute, taking a centering pass from Petter Villegas and scoring past United goalkeeper Mike Ammann.
Faria set up the MetroStars' second goal, sending a long pass down the left wing to Mark Chung, who moved past defender Scott Vermillion and scored from 5 yards.
Faria has three goals and two assists against Washington this season.
D.C. United pressured MetroStars goalkeeper Tim Howard throughout.
Howard kicked away a 20-yard shot by Santino Quaranta in the
27th minute, outraced Abdul Thompson Conteh for a loose ball six
minutes later and then robbed Conteh on a shot from close range.
Howard also stopped a shot from close range by Craig Ziadie in the 54th minute, and made a diving save on shot from 25 yards by Carey Talley.
Mark Lisi scored in the 87th minute for United (6-14-2).
The MetroStars improved to 11-8-3.
