BERLIN -- Germany's Davis Cup team
captain Carl-Uwe Steeb said on Thursday he would wait until the
last minute before deciding if Tommy Haas can play in next
week's quarterfinal tie against the Netherlands.
Haas, who was picked alongside Nicolas Kiefer to play
singles in the tie from April 6-8 in the Dutch city of Den
Bosch, sprained his left ankle in a third-round match at the
Ericsson Open in Miami on Tuesday.
"The ligaments are not torn but it's a very painful injury,"
Steeb said. "I will not make a decision until he has trained
with us."
Rainer Schuettler should step in if Haas has to pull out.
Steeb has picked David Prinosil and Jens Knippschild to play
doubles.
The hosts will be without former Wimbledon champion Richard
Krajicek, who is sidelined with an elbow injury.
Dutch captain Tjerk Bogstra has selected Paul Haarhuis,
Sjeng Schalken, Jan Siemerink and Raemon Sluiter.
The Netherlands trounced defending champions Spain 4-1 in
the opening round last month. Germany struggled past Romania
