CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- In a game that started unusually early, the Phoenix Mercury awoke in time for a 90-57 matinee victory over the Charlotte Sting.

Brandy Reed scored 24 of her 32 points after intermission and sparked a 13-0 second-half spurt for the Mercury, who tied a club record with their third straight road win.

Reed scored eight points and Tonya Edwards five in the second-half spurt that gave Phoenix a 63-45 lead. The Mercury has won the first two games of a seven-game road trip.

"It's always great to get a win on the road," said Edwards, who had 19 points. "We came out and played extremely well. We want to come out of this road trip ahead."

The game began at noon EDT and attracted 8,425 fans to Charlotte Coliseum.

Andrea Stinson scored 20 points and Tracy Reid 11 for the Sting, who fell to 0-5 at home.

Reed had 13 rebounds and paced Phoenix (7-3) to a 40-25 advantage on the boards.

"No matter what, I want to contribute to my team on offense and on defense," Reed said. "Rebounding has been one of our weaknesses throughout the season. That was a focal point, to win the rebounding edge today."

The Sting cut the lead to 42-41 when Shalonda Enis hit the second of two free throws with 16:01 left. But Reed sank a 10-footer, Bridget Pettis scored on a driving layup and Phoenix never trailed by less than five points the rest of the way.

"Phoenix stepped up their game in the second half and got a jump on us," Stinson said. "We weren't able to match their intensity in the second half."

The Mercury led by as many as 12 twice in the first half. But an 8-2 run by Charlotte, capped by Dawn Staley's 11-footer in the final second, cut the lead to 39-33 at intermission.
