CLEVELAND (AP) _ Merlakia Jones scored 18 points to lead the
Cleveland Rockers to a team-record eighth consecutive home victory,
a 70-53 win over the Miami Sol on Saturday.
The Rockers, 4-0 at home this season, have not lost at Gund
Arena since July 20, 2000. Cleveland has won 17 of its last 20 home
games.
Miami started the season 4-0 but has lost two straight. This was
the first time in six games the Sol did not have a player score 20
points.
Sandy Brondello scored 16 points to lead Miami. Brondello made
all three of her shots from 3-point range, but overall the Sol shot
32 percent.
Jones scored eight consecutive points on two free throws and
three jumpers early in the second half, helping Cleveland open a
37-31 lead
Cleveland was sparked defensivly by Mery Andrade's five steals
and one block. The Rockers lead the WNBA in defense, allowing 55.4
points a game.
Andrade scored 11 points and Rushia Brown 10 for the Rockers,
who got 11 rebounds from Chasity Melvin. |
