INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Nadine Malcolm scored 25 points and
Stephanie McCarty followed a steal with a game-winning jump shot in
the final seconds as the Indiana Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx
67-65 Saturday night.
Olympia Scott-Richardson had a double-double. She shot 9-for-14
from the line and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for
Indiana (2-5).
Katie Smith scored 22 points for Minnesota (1-4), which lost its
fourth straight game. Betty Lennox added 15 points and eight
rebounds.
Indiana (2-5) took its first lead, 58-57, on a steal and layup
by McCarty with 3:44 left.
Smith hit two free throws to give Minnesota a 63-60 lead, but
Malcolm countered with a three-point play to tie the score at 63
with 1:19 remaining.
Scott-Richardson hit a pair of free throws to give Indiana a
65-63 lead with 43.4 seconds left. Smith tied the game at 65 with
26.5 remaining.
McCarty had a jumper blocked by Shanele Stires. Smith picked up
the loose ball, but McCarty made a steal and scored in the final
seconds.
Smith's desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the
front of the rim.
Stires, who missed the first four games of the season with a
lower back strain, had nine points in the first half and helped the
Lynx to a 36-29 halftime lead. |
