PHOENIX (AP) _ Jennifer Gillom scored all 12 of her points
during a decisive second-half run as the Phoenix Mercury beat the
Orlando Miracle 72-68 Saturday night.
Bridget Pettis and Gillom keyed a 25-13 run that erased a 55-45
deficit and gave Phoenix a 70-68 lead with 51 seconds left. Pettis,
who finished with 14 points, hit a pair of 3-pointers during run.
Michele Timms, activated before the game and playing for the
first time since having surgery on her left knee last October,
converted a pair of free throws with 10.6 seconds left to seal the
victory.
Nykesha Sales scored 14 points for Orlando, which has lost six
of its last seven. Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 11 points and 10
rebounds.
Sales and McWilliams-Franklin each topped the 1,000-point mark
for their WNBA careers. Sales has 1,007 points and
McWilliams-Franklin has 1005.
The Mercury also activated center Adrain Williams and released
guard Nicole Kubik. Forward Pat Luckey was place on the injured
list with a strained left hamstring. |
