SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ Jackie Stiles scored the first five
points in overtime and finished with 21 as the Portland Fire beat
the Sacramento Monarchs 81-74 Saturday night.
Stiles opened the overtime with a 3-pointer and a layup as
Portland (4-1) scored the first eight points in the extra period,
outscored Sacramento 9-2 and extended its winning streak to four
straight games.
The Monarchs (4-4) missed their first 10 shots in overtime.
Sophia Witherspoon scored 18 points for the Fire. Syliva Crawley
added 13, Tamicha Jackson scored 12 and Kristin Folkl finished with
nine points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Yolanda Griffith had 17 points and 17 rebounds for Sacramento,
which lost for the third time in four games. Kara Wolters and Kedra
Holland-Corn each had 12 points. Tangela Smith added 10.
A 3-pointer by Ruthie Bolton-Holifield capped a 14-5 run as the
Monarchs tied the game at 71 with 3:09 remaining.
Neither team hit a field goal in the final three minutes of
regulation, which ended 72-all.
Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro reinjured her ankle in the final
11 seconds of regulation. She finished with four points and five
assists in 15 minutes. |
