Mercury wins seventh straight win vs. Mystics

PHOENIX (AP) -- Trisha Fallon scored 16 points and Jennifer Gillom added 15 as the Phoenix Mercury rallied in the second half to beat the Washington Mystics 66-52 Saturday night.

Maria Stepanova had 14 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and two steals for the Mercury, who beat the Mystics for the seventh straight time.

Nikki McCray scored 10 points for Washington, which lost its second straight after winning three in a row.

Murriel Page scored nine points in the first half, but did not score in the second half, and Chamique Holdsclaw, who had eight double-doubles in 15 previous games, had eight rebounds and seven points for the Mystics.

Gillom scored eight points in the first 4:12 of the second half, helping ignite a 24-6 run as Phoenix transformed a 30-29 halftime deficit into a 53-36 lead.

Stepanova, a 22-year-old Russian who played one of the strongest games of her four-year WNBA career, capped the surge with a turnaround jumper in the lane with 9:02 left.

The Mercury charged to an early 9-2 lead. Page started a 15-5 run with a three-point play and finished it with a layup, sending the Mystics to a 17-14 lead with 13:03 left in the first half.

There were three more lead changes and two ties before Helen Luz hit a 3-pointer with 2:10 to go, and Vicky Bullett hit a 17-foot jumper 40 seconds later as Washington took its biggest lead of the game at 29-25.
