SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Margo Dydek's dominant overtime performance gave the playoff-hungry Utah Starzz another important win.
Dydek scored six of her eight points in overtime as the Utah Starzz extended their winning streak to a season-high three games, beating the Minnesota Lynx 68-60 Saturday night. Dydek also added 10 rebounds for the game.
"Margo came off the bench in overtime and just took the game
over," Starzz coach Candi Harvey said.
The Starzz remain in the fourth and last playoff spot in the
West, one game ahead of Phoenix and Portland, who lost at home to
Los Angeles 88-83 Saturday night.
Marie Ferdinand scored 17 points for the Starzz, who outscored
the Lynx 10-2 in overtime.
"Marie is still a rookie and is a young player," Dydek said. "She really helped us tonight with her energy."
Katie Smith hit two free throws with 25.9 seconds left in
regulation to tie the game at 58.
"It was really nick and tuck the whole game," Smith said. "We
had to find a way to get it done, but Utah made some good plays at
the end."
Smith, who leads the WNBA in scoring, shot 16-for-18 from the
line and finished with 30 points. She missed two free throws in
overtime with the Lynx facing a 62-58 deficit.
"For Katie to miss two in a row was huge. Hitting our free
throws down the stretch is what definitely won the game for us,"
said Natalie Williams, who had 14 points for the Starzz.
Williams, Utah's leading scorer, cut her forehead in a collision
under the basket in the second half.
Williams missed just over four minutes while getting five
stitches and returned to cap a 14-2 run, which gave the Starzz a
43-37 lead with 10:33 left.
Svetlana Abrosimva and Erin Buescher each had nine rebounds for
the Lynx, who lost their fourth straight game.
