INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Jurgita Streimikyte scored a career-high 21
points to lead the Indiana Fever to a 70-64 victory over the
Washington Mystics on Wednesday night.
Streimikyte, who shot 8-for-11, finished with eight rebounds for
Indiana (9-17). Gordana Grubin scored 17 points and Angie Braziel
11.
Chamique Holdsclaw scored 27 points for Washington (8-17). Nikki
McCray added 14 and Vicky Bullett 10.
Streimikyte scored six points and Grubin added four as Indiana
erased a five-point deficit with a 13-2 run. Washington failed to
score on 10 of 11 possessions and the Fever built a 55-51 lead with
8:31 left.
Murriel Page hit a 3-pointer and Holdsclaw scored on a driving
layup as Washington closed within 66-64 with 28.7 seconds
remaining.
The teams traded turnovers before Streimikyte sank two free
throws with 10.3 seconds left. Stephanie McCarty added two free
throws with 0.8 remaining.
Holdsclaw outscored the Fever 12-5 over a four-minute span early
in the first half as the Mystics closed within 20-19.
Holdsclaw shot 6-for-9 in the first half, and Washington shot 56
percent to take a 37-36 lead at the break. |
