NEW YORK (AP) -- Vickie Johnson had 18 points to lead five
double-figure scorers for the New York Liberty, who beat Utah 82-63
Wednesday night to snap the Starzz's eight-game winning streak.
Tari Phillips had 16 points and became the Liberty's fourth
1,000-point scorer with 1,006. Tamika Whitmore added 13 points for
New York, which had lost five of seven, while Becky Hammon had 11
and Crystal Robinson 10.
Marie Ferdinand had 17 points for the Starzz, who are 12-4 under
Cindi Harvey, who replaced Fred Williams as coach on July 6.
Adrienne Goodson added 12 points for Utah and Natalie Williams had
11 points and 14 rebounds.
The Liberty took advantage of cold shooting by the Starzz to
take a 24-5 lead with 11:09 left in the first half. Phillips had
seven points in the opening run and Whitmore added six.
Two free throws by Camille Cooper with 14:30 to play gave New
York a 54-29 lead. Ferdinand then had eight points in a 15-5 run
that got Starzz within 58-44 with 10:50 to play, but they never got
closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
