Mercury end seven-game slide, top Fire |

PHOENIX (AP) -- Trisha Fallon scored a career-high 24 points as
the Phoenix Mercury broke a franchise-record seven-game losing
streak by beating the Portland Fire 73-62 on Saturday night.
Fallon's previous high was 18 points on July 29 at Sacramento.
Maria Stepanova added 13 points for Phoenix (12-19) while
Jennifer Gillom had 11 point and eight rebounds.
Lisa Harrison also scored 11 points for the Mercury, who rallied
from a 39-30 halftime deficit.
Portland (11-19) lost its eighth consecutive game despite Jackie
Stiles' 18 points.
Kristin Folkl had 13 points and Sophia Witherspoon 10 for the
Fire, who continued to be one of the worst shooting teams in the
WNBA.
Portland came into the game averaging 39 percent shooting from
the field and made just 32 percent (18-of-57) of their shots
against Phoenix. |
