TORONTO (AP) -- David Wells won one for "Clutch."

Wells struck out 10 in his second complete game of the season as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Anaheim Angels 12-4 Wednesday night.

Wells' friend was called Clutch, but the pitcher would not reveal his full name.

"I just talked to him the other day, and he gets hit by a truck. I was dying out there trying to go the distance, and I was going to do everything in my power to do it," he said.

Wells gave up eight hits in his 38th career complete game.

Wells met Clutch about four years ago at a Jimmy Page and Robert Plant concert. Clutch was Plant's personal assistant.

"He took care of some pretty big names," Wells said. "We just hit it off ever since that concert. It's a tragic loss. It's always the good ones that go."

Jose Cruz Jr. led off first with a homer, and Raul Mondesi and Carlos Delgado each had RBI singles as Toronto took a 3-0 lead.

Brad Fullmer's three-run homer in the third made it 6-0. Tony Batista followed with his seventh home run to make it 7-0.

Consecutive run-scoring singles by Fullmer and Batista made it 10-0 in the fifth.

Anaheim starter Ken Hill (1-3) gave up 10 runs on 11 hits in just 3 1/3 innings.

"I wasn't locating my pitches," Hill said.

The Angels scored on Edgard Clemente's RBI single in the sixth and Darin Erstad's three-run homer in the ninth off a tiring Wells.

The Blue Jays tried to make up for Tuesday's hot dog debacle. Before the third inning of Tuesday's game, fans got showered with bits of wiener when they fell apart in after being shot from the "Hot Dog Blaster." Although they repeatedly disintegrated, they kept getting shot into the stands. On Wednesday, the promoters put an extra layer of wrapping on the dogs, and the promotion went off without a hitch. ... Toronto reliever John Frascatore ignited a bench-clearing shoving match by hitting Scott Spiezio with a pitch in the ninth inning of Tuesday night's 16-10 loss to Anaheim. After the game, Mo Vaughn was quoted as saying: "Everybody should take their beatings like a man and respond accordingly. That's not how to do it. If you can't get guys out than find somewhere else to pitch. We'll see what happens tomorrow." Hill didn't hit anybody, but with the score 10-1 in the eighth, reliever Mark Petkovsek threw a pitch behind Delgado. Delgado glared out at Petkovsek, but the benches didn't clear.
