ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays finally turned Tropicana Field into a home-field advantage.

Bubba Trammell hit the last of a team-record five homers, a two-run shot off Kent Mercker with two outs in the 10th inning Saturday as the Devil Rays beat the Anaheim Angels 11-9.

"It was a changeup that he left up," Trammell said. "I'm sure he was trying to throw it in the dirt and see if I would chase it."

Fred McGriff connected twice and drove in five runs and Jose Canseco hit a 472-foot shot, the longest ever at the ballpark.

"They've got a power-packed up lineup," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "You can't take anybody lightly. Those guys are stacked."

Trammell hit his second pinch-hit home run of the season as Tampa Bay won for just the second time in eight home games.

"We just need to loosen up and play the game the way we can," Tampa Bay manager Larry Rothschild said. "You could see it today. It's just a question of going out there and finishing games off. We're making it more difficult than it really is."

Mercker (0-1) gave up a leadoff single to McGriff in the 10th and retired the next two batters. Trammell hit a 3-2 pitch with pinch-runner Tony Graffanino on second into the left-field stands.

"It was just a bad pitch, a hanging changeup" Mercker said. "I wish I was hitting and got that pitch. It wasn't the wrong pitch, it was a bad pitch. I was trying to bounce it, or put it on the plate, anything but wood."

Albie Lopez (1-0) pitched a perfect 10th.

Anaheim tied the game at 9 in the ninth on RBI singles by Mo Vaughn and Orlando Palmeiro off Roberto Hernandez.

Hernandez, who gave up three homers Friday night, began the ninth by walking Adam Kennedy on four pitches.

After Kennedy stole second, Vaughn drove in his third run of the game. Tim Salmon and Garrett Anderson flied out, but a throwing error by third baseman Vinny Castilla on Troy Glaus' grounder brought up Palmeiro.

"I can't throw the ball any better than I have the last two days, except for making mistakes in the strike zone," said Hernandez, who has blown two of his three save opportunities this season. "I didn't take last (Friday) night home with me, I laughed. I made some good pitches and I made some dumb ones yesterday. That's part of the game."

Canseco's three-run homer tied it at 6 in the fifth inning. The drive to center field hit a catwalk approximately 105 feet above the field.

McGriff put Tampa Bay ahead 9-6 with a three-run homer off Shigetoshi Hasegawa with two outs in the seventh inning.

McGriff also hit a two-run shot in the fourth, snapping his home-run drought that dated back to Opening Day.

"I've been playing a lot of years and you have periods where you swing great and you have periods where you don't," said McGriff, who entered in a 5-for-36 slump. "It's the nature of the beast."

Dave Martinez also homered for the Devil Rays.

Vaughn, who finished 2-for-4 with a sacrifice fly, has driven in 25 runs -- including five in two games this season -- against Tampa Bay the past two years.

McGriff, who had gone 51 at-bats without a homer, hit a 414-foot shot in the fourth. It was his first extra-base hit since the second game of the season April 4.

Kennedy had a two-run double and Vaughn hit an RBI single as the Angels took a 3-1 lead in the third.

Anaheim went up 6-3 and chased Esteban Yan during a three-run fifth. Benji Gil scored from third when shortstop Kevin Stocker misplayed a throw at second base on Darin Erstad's stolen base. Vaughn had a sacrifice fly and Glaus added an RBI single.

Glaus' hit extended his career-high hitting streak to nine games.

Martinez hit a first-inning solo homer for Tampa Bay. It was his first homer since last July 4.

The Angels have allowed 10-or-more runs in four of the past five games. The Angels and Devil Rays have combined for 35 runs, 11 homers and 42 hits in the first two games of their weekend series.
