GAME LOG
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Todd Hollandsworth singled through a drawn-in infield with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 3-2 victory over the Houston Astros. Lance Berkman, batting only .066, hit a solo home run with two outs in the ninth off Dodgers closer Jeff Shaw to tie it at 2. Alex Cora, called up from the minors earlier in the day, doubled to lead off the bottom half. Pinch-hitter F.P. Santangelo sacrificed, and Jay Powell relieved Doug Henry (0-2). Hollandsworth hit a slow grounder up the middle for the win. Shaw (2-1) won despite his third blown save in 10 chances. On April 29, he gave up tying, two-out homer in the ninth to Florida's Derrek Lee in a game Los Angeles eventually won 13-12. Dodgers starter Kevin Brown pitched three-hit ball for eight innings. Two of the hits against him were a fourth-inning homer and a seventh-inning single by Jeff Bagwell. Bagwell was thrown out at the plate in the seventh when he tried to score as Brown bounced a pitch off catcher Todd Hundley's glove to the backstop -- which is only 58 feet from home plate this season instead of 83 feet in order to accommodate more than 500 new ground-level seats at Dodger Stadium. Hundley retrieved the ball and fired to Brown, who retired Bagwell with a no-look sweep tag to preserve a 2-1 lead. Brown struck out five and walked one. He has allowed only 11 earned runs in 76 2/3 career innings against the Astros. Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead on doubles by Hollandsworth and Gary Sheffield in the third off Shane Reynolds. Hundley led off the fourth with his fifth homer of the season and fourth in 13 games. Game notesWith shortstop Kevin Elster going on the disabled list Friday and Jose Vizcaino 2-for-26 lifetime against Reynolds, Dodgers manager Davey Johnson started Cora at short. Cora was recalled hours earlier from Triple-A Albuquerque, where he led the Pacific Coast League in April with a .394 average. ... Houston's Roger Cedeno, who replaced Carl Everett in center field after Everett was traded to Boston, has played errorless ball in 26 games -- but is batting only .202. ... Brown and Reynolds were among five pitchers who tied for the NL lead with 35 starts last season. The others were Tom Glavine, Randy Johnson and Jose Lima. | ALSO SEE Baseball Scoreboard Houston Clubhouse Los Angeles Clubhouse RECAPS Boston 5 Tampa Bay 3
