SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Todd Stottlemyre's seventh victory of the season was extra special.

Stottlemyre won the 136th game of his career in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 6-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night to join his father, Mel, as the first father-son duo to combine for 300 wins.

	Andy Fox and Arizona haven't produced the majors' best record -- 26-10 -- by lying down on the job.

"I think that it's neat from the standpoint that it's a credit to my dad," Stottlemyre (7-1) said. "It'll be fun to give him the game ball."

Mel, the New York Yankees pitching coach, began chemotherapy in April for bone marrow cancer.

"This year has been a little bit different for me with my family and all," Stottlemyre said. "But this is the best team I've ever played on, and it's been fun."

Stottlemyre, who tied teammate Randy Johnson for the most victories in the majors, held the Padres to one unearned run on five hits over six innings as the Diamondbacks improved their franchise-record winning streak to nine. He struck out a season-high eight and walked three.

"There's a certain attitude he brings to the club when he goes to the mound," Diamondbacks manager Buck Showalter said.

The Diamondbacks' streak has lifted them to the best record in baseball at 26-10. Arizona has beaten the Padres six straight times, including five during the streak.

San Diego, which lost its eighth straight and 14th in 17 games, dropped a season-high 13 games behind Arizona in the NL West.

"It's been everything," said Padres manager Bruce Bochy, who held a 17-minute postgame clubhouse meeting. "It seems like something different every game."

Stottlemyre won his fourth straight start and beat San Diego for the third time this season.

"That's probably the best I've seen Stottlemyre pitch in two years," Padres left fielder Al Martin said.

Jay Bell gave Stottlemyre all the runs he needed with a two-run homer in the third as the ball nicked off Martin's glove at the wall. Bell's home run followed Tony Womack's two-out double.

"The way we've been going, we've been getting the breaks lately," Bell said.

With two outs in the fourth, Arizona took a 3-0 lead on a double by Steve Finley and Martin's error when he failed to catch Kelly Stinnett's fly ball.

Stan Spencer (0-1) made his first start of the season after being recalled from the minors Friday. The right-hander allowed three runs -- two earned -- on five hits in seven innings. Spencer set a career high with nine strikeouts and walked two.

Spencer drove in San Diego's run with a two-out single in the fourth. Carlos Hernandez reached on a one-out error by left fielder Luis Gonzalez, moved to second on a walk and scored on Spencer's hit.

The Diamondbacks added two runs in the eighth on pinch-hitter Greg Colbrunn's RBI single, followed by a passed ball by Hernandez that allowed Gonzalez to score.

Arizona's Andy Fox hit a double in the ninth and scored after an infield single by Womack and a throwing error by pitcher Matt Whiteside.

Ruben Rivera hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth to close it to 6-2.

Spencer was 0-7 with a 9.16 ERA in nine games -- eight starts -- with San Diego last season. ... San Diego has lost 13 of 15 against division leaders Arizona (2-7), St. Louis (0-3) and Atlanta (0-3). ... The Diamondbacks have beaten San Diego in 17 of their last 20 meetings, dating to last season. ... The Padres have been outscored 53-25 during their eight-game losing streak. ... Spencer came into the game with only one hit in 19 career at-bats. ... San Diego reliever Rodney Myers underwent successful surgery Saturday to repair the torn patellar tendon in his left knee, suffered Thursday on the artificial turf in Cincinnati. Myers, placed on the 60-day DL list Friday, is expected to be out for the season, Padres general manager Kevin Towers said.
