ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Seth Etherton won his first major league game and Mo Vaughn hit his first homer this month as the Anaheim Angels beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 5-3 on Tuesday night.

Etherton (1-1) allowed two runs and five hits over five innings in his fourth career start. He put himself in position for the win by striking out Greg Vaughn with runners on second and third to end the fifth inning.

Mo Vaughn's two-run homer _ his 19th of the season and first since May 28 _ put the Angels up 4-2 in the third inning against Bryan Rekar (2-4). In his career against Tampa Bay, Vaughn is hitting .341 with nine homers and 39 RBIs in 126 at-bats.

Troy Percival got the final three outs for his 16th save in 19 opportunities.

Fred McGriff hit a solo homer for the Devil Rays, who lost for just third time in eight games. The homer was McGriff's first since hitting the 400th of his career June 2.

Jose Guillen had an RBI double and Vinny Castilla hit a run-scoring single as Tampa Bay took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Anaheim tied it with a two-run second. Bengie Molina hit a solo homer and Benji Gil added an RBI single.

The Angels have hit 77 homers over the past 44 games.

The teams exchanged runs in the sixth. Adam Kennedy had an RBI single for Anaheim and McGriff homered in the bottom of the frame.

Rekar gave up five runs and nine hits in six-plus innings.

Notes: Tampa Bay 3B Vinny Castilla left after the sixth inning with a sore back. ... Anaheim DH Darin Erstad, who entered hitting an AL-best .383, went 1-for-5 and had his average drop three points. ... Devil Rays CF Gerald Williams, the only Tampa Bay player to start every game this season, was scratched from the starting lineup because of a strained left hip flexor. ... The Devil Rays have been outhomered 51-28 at home.. ...Tampa Bay RHP Juan Guzman (right shoulder tendinitis) is scheduled to make his final minor league rehab start Wednesday for Triple-A Durham.
