GAME LOG
BALTIMORE (AP) _ B.J. Surhoff and Charles Johnson homered, and Scott Erickson overcame eight walks as Baltimore beat Texas 3-2 Tuesday night, extending the Rangers' losing streak to a season-high six games. Erickson's eight walks matched a career high, and he also allowed five hits in seven innings. But Texas went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and hit into three double plays, all started by shortstop Mike Bordick. Erickson (3-3) threw 114 pitches, 59 of them outside the strike zone. Buddy Groom and Mike Trombley worked the eighth, and Mike Timlin got three outs for his sixth save in eight opportunities. Rick Helling (7-5) lost his fourth straight start for last-place Texas. The right-hander struck out six and had an otherwise effective performance ruined by a pair of 3-1 pitches. Surhoff homered on a 3-1 pitch to cut Texas' lead to 2-1 in the fourth, and Johnson hit a two-run shot on the same count in the fifth. It was the third straight victory for the Orioles, their longest winning streak since a four-game run from May 23-26. Texas last lost six straight in 1998. The Rangers took advantage of Erickson's wildness to go up 2-0 in the third. Erickson walked the bases loaded before David Segui drove in a run with a grounder, and Dave Martinez hit an RBI single. Surhoff hit his 10th homer with two outs in the fourth. Johnson's 12th home run came after a single by Will Clark. Notes: Albert Belle, 0-for-3 with an intentional walk, had his 13-game hitting streak end. ... Erickson last walked eight in 1990 with the Minnesota Twins. ... Texas has lost four straight and eight of 10 on the road. ... Baltimore reacquired reliever Alan Mills from the Los Angeles Dodgers for RHP Al Reyes. It's the first trade between the teams involving major leaguers since 1989, when the Orioles got OF Mike Devereaux for RHP Mike Morgan. ... Texas' Rafael Palmeiro played in his 2,000 major league game, including 1,006 with the Rangers and 736 with Baltimore. ... Texas' Frank Catalanotto made his first outfield appearance in the majors in the eighth.
