OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Athletics feel there's no
deficit too big for them to overcome. On Monday night, they made
that clear to the Baltimore Orioles.
Jeremy Giambi's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave
the Athletics a 13-12 win for their sixth straight triumph. The A's
trailed by seven runs early in the game, and were behind 12-7 in
the sixth inning.

Jason Giambi singled off Mike Timlin (2-2) with one out in the
10th. One out later, John Jaha walked. Jeremy Giambi then
pinch-hit, singling to left to drive in his older brother.
"Both Giambis hit my pitch," Timlin said. "They hit the
pitches I wanted them to hit; they just hit them a little farther
than I would have liked."
Jeff Tam (2-2) pitched the final three innings for the win.
Combined with the 21 runs they scored Sunday at Kansas City, the
A's tied an Oakland record with 34 runs in a two-game span.
"You always feel like you can come back in the game, especially
when we scored 21 runs yesterday," said Oakland's Matt Stairs.
"We just have the confidence to know we're never out of a
ballgame."
Both teams threatened in the ninth. The Orioles had runners on
second and third with no outs, but Tam got Luis Matos, Mike Bordick
and Delino DeShields to ground out without a run scoring.
The A's loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the
ninth, but Timlin got Terrence Long to hit into a double play.
Oakland, which trailed 8-1 in the third, scored six runs in the
bottom of that inning. Jaha and Stairs walked with the bases loaded
to force in runs, and Miguel Tejada had a two-run double.
"I feel like no lead is insurmountable," Oakland manager Art
Howe said, "especially once we start getting a little momentum
going."
Jason Giambi, who came into the game second in the AL with 67
RBI, added a two-run double and Ben Grieve hit a two-run homer as
the A's scored four in the sixth. Giambi has 17 RBI in his last 11
games.
Albert Belle hit a three-run homer and Mike Bordick, leading off
for the first time in five years, had a three-run double for
Baltimore.
Belle, who has 12 homers and 30 RBI in his last 20 games, hit
his 17th homer of the season in the fifth as the Orioles -- the
worst road team in the majors -- fell to 10-25 away from home this
season.
Bordick's three-run double capped a five-run Baltimore third in
which Cal Ripken had an RBI double and Charles Johnson added a
run-scoring single.
Johnson also hit a solo homer, B.J. Surhoff had two RBI singles
and Delino DeShields had an RBI double.
Oakland's Mark Mulder gave up six runs and seven hits in just 2
1/3 innings, by far the shortest start of his rookie season.
Orioles starter Pat Rapp failed to take advantage of a big early
lead for the second straight game. He was given an 8-1 lead in the
third, but was not able to get an out in the bottom of the third
before being pulled.
Rapp, who allowed five runs on five hits, had been staked to a
5-0 lead last Wednesday against Texas but was unable to complete
the fourth inning of that game.
"We had an 8-1 lead, but Rapp started getting behind every
hitter and it didn't look like it was going to get any better,"
Baltimore manager Mike Hargrove said.

Belle's homer was his 375th, moving him past Rocky Colavito
into sole possession of 44th place on the career list. ... Bordick
led off for the first time since Aug. 13, 1995, when he was playing
for the A's. ... Surhoff, who had four singles and went 4-for-6,
extended his hitting streak to 13 games. ... Ripken's second at-bat
of the evening was the 10,973rd of his career, moving him past Stan
Musial into eighth place on the career list. ... Luis Matos made
his major league debut for the Orioles, playing center field and
going 0-for-4 with a walk. ... Baltimore manager Mike Hargrove was
ejected in the sixth by home plate umpire Scott Higgins. ... The
A's have scored 61 runs in their last five games. ... Eric Chavez
went 0-for-4 for the A's, snapping his 15-game hitting streak. ...
All 12 of Grieve's homers have come at night. ... The A's are 13-3
in June.
