PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Ron Gant's second homer of the game capped a three-run eighth inning Wednesday night, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies over the Milwaukee Brewers 9-7.

Mickey Morandini opened the eighth with a triple against Juan Acevedo (0-3) and Desi Relaford followed with another triple for a 7-6 lead.

Two outs later, Relaford scored on a wild pitch and Gant followed with his 14th home run.

Chris Brock (4-4) got one out for the victory and Jeff Brantley pitched the ninth for his 10th save in 10 opportunities. Marquis Grissom homered with two outs in the Brewers ninth.

The Phillies have won seven of their last nine. The game was delayed one hour and 33 minutes at the start because of rain.

Tyler Houston and Jose Hernandez drove in runs in the sixth off Philadelphia starter Andy Ashby as Milwaukee took a 6-4 lead.

Gant and Scott Rolen hit solo home runs in the seventh off reliever David Weathers, tying it at 6.

Ashby struggled in his first start back off the disabled list. He allowed eight hits and six runs in six innings, striking out five and walking two.

Making things worse, Ashby exchanged heated words with fans behind the dugout when he left the game. He made his first start since June 11 after being sidelined by an infected finger.

Milwaukee starter John Snyder pitched six effective innings en route to a no-decision. He yielded seven hits and four runs, two earned, struck out three and walked two.

Philadelphia took a 3-2 lead in the second behind a pair of RBI singles by Pat Burrell and Ashby. Mike Lieberthal added a RBI double in the third.

Jeromy Burnitz hit his 16th homer of the season in the fourth and Ron Belliard had a two-out, RBI single in the fifth.

Notes: The Phillies acquired veteran left-hander Ed Vosberg from Colorado for a minor league player to be named. Vosberg, 38, was sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He is 9-14 with 13 saves and a 4.37 ERA in 213 career games. ... Scouts from the Mets, Yankees, Orioles, Braves and Indians were in attendance watching Ashby's performance. Phillies General Manager Ed Wade has confirmed that Ashby could be dealt before the July 31 trading deadline. Ashby hasn't won since May 7. ... Milwaukee scored its first run on a bizarre play. Belliard led off the game with a double and continued home when center fielder Doug Glanville slid to make the stop but, from his back, made an errant throw that appeared to be headed to Gant in left. Gant wasn't looking for the relay throw and the ball trickled into shallow left field, allowing Belliard to score.
