SEATTLE (AP) -- Rickey Henderson and the Seattle Mariners had no
trouble scoring runs, even without swinging the bat.
Henderson drew a team record-tying five walks, scored twice and
stole two bases Sunday as Seattle beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-6
in a tense game filled with inside pitches.

"Rickey's such a veteran and he knows the strike zone so
well," winning pitcher Aaron Sele said. "He didn't get any hits,
but he got five walks. So he's on base five times, and any time you
put a speedy guy who's a basestealer, it's always a little
nerve-wracking for a pitcher."
The AL West-leading Mariners were outhit 10-5, but they took
advantage of 11 walks.
Alex Rodriguez and Jay Buhner homered for the Mariners, who have
won 11 of the last 12 against Toronto. Seattle is 6-1 against the
Blue Jays this year, outscoring them 72-46 this season.
Sele (12-6) avoided the first four-game losing skid of his
career. He gave up consecutive home runs to Brad Fullmer and Darrin
Fletcher in the seventh inning before leaving.
Jose Paniagua got his second save.
"We didn't get that many hits, but we got the runs," Seattle
first baseman John Olerud said. "That's a good sign, I think. It
means a team is starting to be able to manufacture runs."
Henderson, 41, tied the club mark for walks shared by Rodriguez
and Tino Martinez. Henderson (2,031) moved closer to the career
record for walks in the majors held by Babe Ruth (2,056).
Kelvim Escobar (7-11) was hurt by five unearned runs in the
third. He walked a career-high seven for the third time this year.
Seattle leads the majors with 521 walks.
All told in the four-game series, Toronto pitchers hit five
batters and Seattle pitchers nailed three.
Henderson said the aggressive pitching fires him up.
"With those brushback pitches, it makes me want to take it to
them," he said. "It makes me want to go find my bat and get back
in there."
Toronto reliever John Frascatore was ejected by home plate
umpire Rick Rieker in the eighth inning for throwing inside to the
All-Star Rodriguez, who was hit by Frascatore in the seventh inning
of Saturday's game.
Blue Jays manger Jim Fregosi came out to argue and was also
ejected by Rieker.
"I think it's ridiculous when you start protecting superstars
and other people don't. They get hit and not a word is said," Blue
Jays manager Jim Fregosi said. "I think the whole thing was
handled ridiculously by the umpire.
"If they think somebody is throwing at somebody then warn
somebody, but don't kick a pitcher out of the game because he comes
inside on somebody. It had to be a carryover from the day before,"
he said.
Buhner hit his 19th homer, a two-run shot into the Mariners
bullpen in left-center field to cap the third-inning burst.
Rodriguez made it 6-2 when he homered into the Mariners bullpen
in the fifth. It was his 25th homer of the season.
Rodriguez scored three times, boosting his AL-leading total to
90 runs.
Left fielder Rob Ducey's error on a drive off the bat of
Rodriguez gave Seattle a 1-0 lead in the third. Edgar Martinez
singled home a run, John Olerud had an RBI groundout and Buhner
homered.
Toronto closed to 5-2 in the fourth on Fullmer's RBI single and
Jose Cruz Jr.'s RBI groundout.
Fullmer hit his 21st homer to lead off the seventh. Fletcher
followed with his 13th home run.
Olerud's two-run single under the glove of third baseman Tony
Batista and Mike Cameron's sacrifice fly made it 9-4 in the
seventh.
Martinez hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth, scoring Henderson.
Game notes
Toronto LF Shannon Stewart, hit above his left eye with a
fly ball Saturday, was a late scratch from the starting lineup as a
precautionary measure. He is listed as day-to-day. Ducey, who was
scheduled to start in right field, moved to left and Marty Cordova
played right. ... The Mariners are a major league-best 36-17 at
home.
