Guerrero, Cabrera sock Marlins

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

MONTREAL (AP) -- Vladimir Guerrero was obviously delighted about his latest accomplishment.

Guerrero set a Montreal record with his 43rd home run and Orlando Cabrera matched his career high with five RBI Thursday, leading the Expos to a 10-3 victory over the Florida Marlins.

Guerrero hopped and pumped his right fist in the air as he reached first base, his face breaking into a wide smile following his fifth-inning homer off A.J. Burnett (2-7). Guerrero, who has hit six homers in the past five games, hit 42 last year.

"He's something," Marlins manager John Boles said. "He's a superstar, no question about it. This is what Babe Ruth must have looked like."

Guerrero has not been talking to reporters.

Dustin Hermanson (12-14) scattered seven hits -- including Derek Lee's 26th homer -- in his second complete game of the season.

"Those 10 runs were very nice," Hermanson said. "We played well today. We had great defense and we put the bats on the ball. You can't ask for more."

Burnett allowed eight runs, 10 hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings.

"These guys come out swinging the bats," Burnett said. "You can't take anything away from their lineup -- they're a good-hitting team."

Cabrera, who also had five RBI at Atlanta on July 3, hit a three-run homer in the fourth for the Expos' team-record 173rd homer, one more than they hit three years ago. He added a two-run double in a five-run sixth.

Jose Vidro had a three-run double in the sixth off Ricky Bones.

Florida's Luis Castillo singled twice for his team-record 55th multihit game, one more than Jeff Conine had in 1994. Castillo also tied Conine's team record of 175 hits, set in 1996.

Castillo stole his major league-leading 59th base following his single in the third, breaking Chuck Carr's team record, set in the Marlins' inaugural 1993 season.

Cliff Floyd's RBI single put the Marlins ahead 1-0 in the first.

Florida held that lead until Vidro and Geoff Blum singled and Cabrera followed with his 12th homer to make it 3-1.

Andy Tracy singled to lead off the fifth and Guerrero followed with his 12th homer of September, tying the team record for homers in a month, set by Rusty Staub in August 1970 and matched by Guerrero in August 1999.

The homer also gave Guerrero 368 total bases, breaking the previous team record of 367, set by Guerrero in 1998.

"Another long home run by Guerrero," Expos manager Felipe Alou said. "We had a lot of big hits today."

Montreal loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth to chase Burnett, and Vidro hit his 47th double off Bones, making it 8-1.

Game notes
Marlins CF Preston Wilson needs one more homer to become the 23rd player in major league history to have 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in the same season. Wilson has 32 stolen bases and 29 homers. ... Hermanson has four career complete games. ... With a runner on second and two outs in the first, Burnett gave Guerrero his 23rd intentional walk of the season.
