Scouting Report

1999 Season
After four years at Kansas State and six in the minor leagues, Craig Wilson didn't mind the view from the White Sox bench at all. He didn't get much playing time until late July, and improved the team's fielding while contributing offensively once he got his chance.

Hitting, Baserunning & Defense
Wilson sometimes seems overmatched against big league pitching, getting blown away by both fastballs and quality breaking pitches. He's a singles hitter with outstanding strike-zone judgment, and he can drive the ball when pitchers get behind and groove strikes. Wilson is a natural shortstop, but lacks the range to be a long-term option there. He has developed into a utilityman and is especially reliable at third base. Wilson would be more valuable off the bench if he had speed, but he's a below-average runner.

2000 Outlook
Wilson's approach and selflessness make him popular with both management and teammates. He could get a chance to platoon with Greg Norton at third base until prospect Joe Crede takes over at the hot corner.
