NEW YORK (AP) _ Stephon Marbury scored 39 points and Keith Van Horn added 34 as the New Jersey Nets kept the Knicks winless in the exhibition season with a 105-99 victory over New York on Wednesday night. Marbury, the NBA's leading scorer this preseason, also had 10 assists and four steals as the Nets (3-1) came back from an early 16-point deficit. Latrell Sprewell had 28 points to lead the Knicks (0-4), and Allan Houston added 19. Marbury scored his final field goal with just under five minutes left to give New Jersey a 97-89 lead. Sprewell cut the deficit to six on a jumper that made it 101-95, and the Knicks had three chances to get closer. But Sprewell missed a shot on one trip downcourt, Marbury stole the ball from Houston on New York's next possession and Sprewell missed a another jumper. Marbury then made two free throws to reach 39 points. Marbury, playing in front of numerous family and friends in his hometown, was 12-for-13 from the foul line. Sprewell, who has been given the starting small forward spot by coach Jeff Van Gundy, scored 13 points in the first quarter as the Knicks shot out to a 31-15 lead. The Nets made up the deficit by early in the third quarter. Marcus Camby did not play for the Knicks because of a lower back strain. Already injured for New York were Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Charlie Ward and Chris Dudley. Dudley, who has missed all of Knicks training camp, will likely report on Thursday. He's been out with a sprained right knee and is expected to be ready for the opening of the season. New Jersey's injury list included Kerry Kittles (knee), Jayson Williams (leg), Lucious Harris (back), Jamie Feick (ankle) and Scott Burrell (wrist).
