BALTIMORE (AP) - Chris Whitney scored 21 points to lead the Washington Wizards to a 112-99 exhibition victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night. The Wizards (2-1) led by as many as 26 points midway through the third quarter. However, the Cavaliers (3-2) went on a 24-6 run in the third quarter and eventually got as close as nine when Jamel Thomas made two free throws with just over a minute remaining to cut the lead to 107-98. Whitney followed that with a 3-pointer to put the Wizards up 110-98 and seal the victory. The Wizards used a 16-4 run over the final 3:26 of the first quarter to take a 34-21 lead. The Wizards outrebounded the Cavaliers 37-27 in a game which saw both teams go to the free throw line a combined 90 times. Juwan Howard added 15 points for the Wizards, while Tracy Murray had 14, Aaron Williams 13, Richard Hamilton 11 and Michael Smith 10. Thomas led the Cavaliers with 18 points and rookie point guard Trajan Langdon added 16, including three 3-pointers. The Cavaliers played without two starters as center Zydrunas Ilgauskas did not travel because of an injured foot and forward Shawn Kemp had the flu.
