ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- Reserve guards Bonzi Wells and Greg Anthony led a third-quarter surge as the Portland Trail Blazers raced to a 92-78 exhibition victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Wells, a second-year shooting guard expected to back up Steve Smith, scored nine of his 13 points in the third quarter. Anthony, a veteran who spells starter Damon Stoudamire at the point, contributed seven in the period. The Trail Blazers limited the Lakers to 31 percent (5-of-18) shooting in the quarter, turning a one-point halftime lead into a 71-53 advantage entering the final period. Portland cruised and remained one of two unbeaten teams in the preseason. Scottie Pippen scored 20 points for the Blazers (6-0). During the offseason, Pippen requested a trade to the Lakers so he could be reunited with Phil Jackson, his former coach with the Chicago Bulls. Instead, the Houston Rockets shipped him to Portland for six players. Shaquille O'Neal scored 16 points and Derek Fisher added 10 for the Lakers (3-3), who erased a 10-point first-quarter deficit.
