Warriors bury Bulls by 20

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- The Golden State Warriors hardly ever beat the Chicago Bulls when they had Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. So, they settled for knocking off the new version that in many ways reminds them of themselves.

Antawn Jamison scored 20 points and the Warriors snapped a 13-game losing streak to Chicago, beating the Bulls 99-79 Tuesday night.

"That was when they had Michael and Scottie," Jamison said. "That whole team has changed and we have changed. When you have stats like that, you just put them behind you. We were just focusing on getting a win. The way we've been struggling lately, we knew we had to play 48 minutes, and games like this, they can really help you."

Chris Mills added 14 points for the Warriors, who opened a 20-point lead by halftime and stayed well in front over the last two quarters to notch their second win on the year and first at home in four tries.

Golden State's Donyell Marshall said it was important for the Warriors to assert themselves early against the struggling Bulls.

"These are teams that can come in and shock you," said Marshall, who had a season-high 18 rebounds to go with his 11 points. "They have nothing to lose. I'm sure a lot of people look at us in the same way."

Mookie Blaylock also had 11 points for the Warriors, who registered just the second 20-point win in their last 179 games.

"We couldn't get started worth a darn tonight," said second-year Bulls coach Tim Floyd. "I thought our looks were good in the first quarter but we couldn't get anything down out of our post-ups. Four of our first seven shots were in the paint, but they didn't go down."

The game marked Golden State's first meeting in two years with Chicago, which has been in a rebuilding mode since the retirement of Jordan. The Warriors and Bulls didn't play each other during last year's lockout-shortened season, Chicago's first of the post-Jordan era.

It was Warriors' first win over the Bulls since a 118-110 decision in Chicago on Nov. 5, 1991.

Elton Brand, the NBA's No. 1 overall pick, led Chicago with 17 points. Dedric Willoughby and Ron Artest each added 14 for the Bulls, who have begun the season with six losses in seven games after finishing 13-37 last year.

"We did a lot of things wrong," Willoughby said. "We gave up a lot of transition baskets. That is a thing we did early in the season. I thought we corrected but it's like we backtracked."

In front by 20 points at the break, the Warriors scored seven straight points to open the third period, with John Starks hitting a 3-pointer and a 15-foot jumper around Jamison's breakaway slam.

By the time Terry Cummings banked in a 15-footer at the end of the third quarter, Golden State was in front 77-50 and firmly in control.

Up 24-19 at the end of the first period, the Warriors stretched their lead to 53-33 at halftime.

Chris Anstey's tip-in pulled the Bulls to 26-21, but Golden State put together a 13-3 run that Blaylock finished with a fastbreak layup off a steal and a 3-pointer in between Willoughby's 3-pointer.

Dickey Simpkins drove the lane for a dunk to break up the flurry but Adonal Foyle, who had 10 points, converted a three-point play to start another run that saw the Warriors outscore the Bulls 16-6 over the last five minutes of the second quarter.
