PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Allen Iverson had 15 points as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the San Antonio Spurs 92-87 Tuesday night in the teams' preseason opener. Iverson, playing just 23 minutes, was 5-for-8 from the field and 5-for-5 from the line. Tyrone Hill added 11 points and eight rebounds. Philadelphia used 16 players and the Spurs 15, with San Antonio center David Robinson playing only 10 minutes in the first quarter. Three other Spurs starters _ Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson and Derek Anderson _ did not play in the second half. Rookie Speedy Claxton, Philadelphia's first-round pick, had eight points, eight assists and two steals in 15 minutes. He also received the loudest cheer from the crowd with a reverse layup in the fourth quarter. Malik Rose had 18 points for the Spurs, including 10-for-10 shooting from the foul line. Shawnelle Scott added 12 points and 10 rebounds. After the game, Philadelphia announced coach Larry Brown would not accompany the team on upcoming trips to Mexico City and Chapel Hill, N.C. Brown, who spent much of the summer as an assistant coach with the U.S. Olympic team, will leave the 76ers after the game in New York on Thursday for some time off.
