Coach's Edge: Wisconsin playbook

Wisconsin playbook: Cheese spread

Wisconsin slipped into the tourney based on its 8-8 Big Ten record and some wins against big teams. The Badgers play tough defense and have some decent shooters.

But the Badgers don't possess any electrifying offensive threats. The boys from Cheeseland have to spread their offense and hit their jumpers to be successful.

ANIMATE THIS PLAY DIAGRAM WITH SHOCKWAVE
(A) The key to success for a jump-shooting team is good spacing that prevents the defense from double-teaming whoever has a hot hand.

(B) Duany Duany (13) pops out to the arc off a screen from Mark Vershaw (50).

(C) Maurice Linton (5) and Duany (13) reverse the ball to the weakside, trying to find a teammate with some space to shoot.

(D) Eventually, the ball goes to the Badger inside, Center Mark Vershaw (50) who cans the short jumper. If they spread the cheese and find the hot hand, the Badgers have a chance to advance.
