A look at the principles in the case

Carlton Dotson was arrested Monday and charged with the murder of a former Baylor teammate Patrick Dennehy. Here is a brief background of each player, as well as the attorney who will represent Dotson as the case continues to unfold.

Dotson
Dotson
Dotson transferred to Baylor in the summer of 2002 after playing two seasons at Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas. The 6-7 power forward appeared in all 28 of Baylor's games in 2002-03, averaging 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in 15.6 minutes a game. Described by coaches as a steady and smart player, Dotson helped Paris JC reach the NJCAA Region XIV championship game by averaging 12 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Carlton was named to the All-Region XIV third team and 2002 Region XIV All-Tournament team. As a freshman, Carlton helped guide Paris to 25-10 record and was named honorable mention All-Region XIV in 2000-2001. Carlton originally signed with the University of Buffalo out of North Dorchester High School in Hurlock, Md., but did not attend UB. He averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds for North Dorchester as a senior in 1999-2000, where he was a two-time all-state selection and two-time Bayside Conference Player of the Year. Carlton averaged 18 points and eight rebounds as a junior in 1998-99 when North Dorchester won the state championship.

Patrick Dennehy
Patrick Dennehy
Dennehy
Dennehy transferred from the University of New Mexico prior to the 2002-2003 season and sat out as a redshirt while attending Baylor University. As a sophomore in 2001-02, Dennehy, a center, started 28 games at New Mexico and was named All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention after averaging 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds. Dennehy led the Lobos and finished fifth in the MWC with 7.5 rebounds per game. Dennehy averaged 12.6 minutes as freshman reserve forward at New Mexico in 2000-2001, playing in 33 games and making two starts. He was named the school's Most Improved Player as a freshman, averaging 2.3 points and 4.1 rebounds. Dennehy arrived at New Mexico after finishing his prep career at St. Francis High School in Mountain View, Calif., where he played for head coach Steve Filios. He was rated a 1999-2000 high honorable mention All-America by Street & Smith's magazine, despite missing half his senior season at St. Francis recovering from a torn ACL, which he injured at the ABCD Adidas Camp in New Jersey, and required surgery in August 1999. Dennehy sat out his junior year of high school after transferring from Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, Calif., where he averaged 20 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks as a sophomore under coach Shawn Valenzuela. Dennehy was born on Jan. 28, 1982 in Oakland, Calif. He is the son of Brian and Valorie Brabazon.

Irving Jr.
Irving
Irvin is a Florida-based attorney representing Dotson. He recently represented former Florida State quarterback Adrian McPherson, who was charged with two felonies involving checks, and a misdemeanor charge of gambling, including bets on Florida State football games. The case was settled when McPherson pleaded no contest to gambling and theft charges under a deal in which he avoided jail time.
