Marshall thunders
by BYU for 13-0 year

Marshall completed a 13-0 season Monday by beating BYU 21-3 in the Motor City Bowl. Doug Chapman scored all three touchdowns for the Thundering Herd. He rushed for 133 yards and two TDs and caught a pass from Chad Pennington for the other score. The Herd has won the last two Motor City Bowls after losing the inaugural contest, and is 35-4 since moving up to Division I.
IT WAS OVER WHEN GAME BALL GOES TO STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Marshall's Doug Chapman beat the BYU defense and his own exhaustion on an 87-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The longest play in Motor City Bowl history gave the Herd a 14-3 lead.
Chapman. On a day when QBs Chad Pennington of Marshall and Kevin Feterik of BYU were to be showcased, Chapman rushed for 133 yards and scored the game's 3 TDs.
BYU QBs were sacked eight times by the speedy Herd defense. ... Marshall is one of three unbeaten Div. I teams -- the others (Florida State and Virginia Tech) play each other in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4.
