Jesse Palmer should be the starter in the Citrus Bowl for Florida. |
Still, coach Steve Spurrier said Jesse Palmer will likely be the starter for the Citrus Bowl.
"Jesse right now looks like a guy who can go through practice and play," Spurrier said. "So, we're sort of getting him ready now and giving him an opportunity to play."
Johnson did not throw in Florida's first practice since its 34-7 loss to Alabama in the Southeastern Conference title game on Saturday.
After the practice, the players huddled for about 15 minutes to air out differences that arose from defensive end Alex Brown's comments after the game.
After the loss, in which the offense produced just 114 yards, Brown said: "We're a split team. The defense is upset with the offense. You've got to have people making plays out there. You can't drop passes. You can't not go after balls."
Spurrier said the Gators (9-3) had plenty of frustrations to discuss after their first two-game losing streak since 1992.
"They had a little powwow, a little meeting," Spurrier said. "I think they had a little breakdown. Hopefully, they cleared out whatever little problems occur sometimes when you lose two in a row. The meeting means probably absolutely nothing. But if it helps the players sort of get something off their chests, then hopefully it was good."
Several players refused to talk to reporters as they left the field.
One of the few who would comment was receiver Darrell Jackson, who said the meeting was constructive.
"Everybody's blaming everybody else," Jackson said. "But we're all right. We're still a team. The things Alex said were just out of frustration. We talked about it and everything seemed to be all right."
The Gators play Michigan State in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1.
