Beamer, 53, is 88-59-2 in 13 years with the Hokies, including seven straight winning seasons, and 130-82-4 in 19 years overall. He agreed to a new contract with a seven-year annuity prior to this season after being wooed by several schools, including Clemson and South Carolina.

Beamer previously coached at Murray State from 1981-86 before heading to Blacksburg, Va.

The winningest coach in Virginia Tech history, Beamer guided his alma mater to its third Big East Conference title this season and a trip to the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4, where the Hokies will battle Florida State for the national championship.

The Hokies outscored their opponents 455-116 during the regular season as they achieved their highest ranking ever. They will compete in postseason for the seventh straight campaign.

Beamer will receive the award at the 33rd Walter Camp National Awards Dinner on Feb. 5 at the Yale University Commons.
