Backstage in Miami: That's the ticket
By Jim Jenks, ESPN.com

MIAMI -- When it comes to the Super Bowl, getting tickets is always a challenge. Version XXXIII is no different. However, an Atlanta radio station is willing to help -- if you have friends in high places.

 Tickets
These have become a very hot commodity in Miami this week.

WSTR-FM (Star 94) is offering tickets to listeners who bring celebrities to the phone for a radio interview. The station last week began its "Superstars for the Super Bowl" contest, guaranteeing tickets to the listener who can get the biggest star to the phone during the "Steve and Vicki in the Morning" show.

According to The Miami Herald, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Shirley Jones of the Partridge Family and now the Drew Carey Show, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, talk-show host Maury Povich and Falcons QB Chris Chandler have been worth admission to Sunday's game.

Where's Garo?
Remember Garo Yepremian's ill-fated pass attempt in Super Bowl VII? You know the one. Yepremian, the kicker for the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins, was lined up for a field goal when the snap was mishandled. He scooped up the ball and attempted to throw a pass. It became a throw that will live in football infamy.

Running for his life, the ball actually landed behind him and was ruled a fumble. The Redskins' Mike Bass grabbed it and ran in for touchdown. It was Washington's only score as the Dolphins went on to win 14-7.

Garo is at it again. As part of a Super Bowl XXXIII promotion, Sprint and Yepremian are teaming up to recreate the moment. It goes something like this:

"The good news: If you throw like Garo Yepremian, you may win two tickets to the Super Bowl. The bad news: You throw like Garo Yepremian."

Fans are invited to meet Yepremian at Sprint PCS centers in the Miami area and do their best impression of the ill-fated play for a chance to win.

If you are desperate for tickets and can't find a celebrity to bring to the phone for a radio interview, don't give up. You might want to fly to Miami anyway, and try to impress the judges with your lack of football talent.

Sorry, Garo.

Rumors of the Day

  • Former Bulls forward Dennis Rodman reportedly is in Miami to sign a deal with the NBA's Heat, but is delaying the signing so he can party at the Super Bowl. Fueling that rumor was a postcard delivered to the media hotel on Monday touting Rodman as the host of Drama@The Bowl at a place called Club Liquid. It seems that wife Carmen Electra is along for the ride as well.

On the card, a bright red-headed Rodman is dressed in a black zip-up top, tight silver shorts and a dog collar and shares the photo with a parrot and two bikini-clad women on a beach. On the back, Rodman is posing on a couch and the information touts a XXX No-No room, retro drag, funk and live entertainment.

Surely, the Heat can wait a few more days, Rodman is still on his honeymoon.

  • Falcons coach Dan Reeves has no ill will toward Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, but you wouldn't know that from his tirade earlier this week. Rumor has it Reeves' eruption was planned, because he wanted to get in the heads of his former offensive coordinator and quarterback John Elway and take the Broncos' attention away from preparations. Reeves apologized Monday, and Shanahan gave the impression that it didn't matter either way.

    Weathering the Week
If Monday was any indication, Miami will be a perfect host for Super Sunday. Temperatures were in the mid-70s, with an ocean breeze of 15-20 mph.The outlook for Tuesday calls for warm and windy weather. Highs will be in the upper-70s, with winds between 15-20 mph. ... The hottest selling Super Bowl XXXIII souvenir at media headquarters is a sweatshirt for $69.99. The design is a Florida palm tree growing through the words Super Bowl. ... Broncos receiver Willie Green procured a 1999 midnight-blue Lamborghini for the week. The rental is said to cost $1,900 a day. ... Sure to be the most-asked question during Tuesday's Media Day: "Hey, John, what are your plans for next year?" ... Quote of the day from Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune: (Broncos LB) Bill Romanowski has compiled impressive statistics in two playoff games this season: 16 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, one recovered fumble, two victories, 24 taunts, one cheap shot, and a half-dozen shots to the back."
