CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- Jarome Iginla got onto the scoresheet yet again and into the Calgary record book at the same time.

Iginla extended his point streak to an NHL season-high 16 games with an assist on Marc Savard's first-period goal as the Calgary Flames tied the New Jersey Devils 2-2 on Sunday night.

Iginla tied Gary Suter and Gary Roberts for the Flames' franchise record.

"It's a thrill to tie those guys. It's quite an honor," said Iginla, who has 12 goals and 14 assists during the stretch that dates to Jan. 29.

Patrik Elias scored with 11:03 left in the third period to cap the Devils' rally from a two-goal deficit.

Elias scored his team-leading 28th goal over Fred Brathwaite off a pass from Scott Gomez during a 2-on-1.

The goal came less than a minute after Martin Brodeur had closed his pads to thwart Valeri Bure on a breakaway.

Brodeur preserved the tie in the waning seconds of regulation, sprawling to stop a breakaway by Iginla with 10 seconds left.

"I was just about to shoot it top corner when (defenseman Scott) Niedermayer got his stick on my elbow," Iginla said. "That one hurt as it would have been nice to get two points out of this game."

Gomez had the best chance in overtime, getting a breakaway with two minutes left only to have Brathwaite stick out his right pad to stop the first shot as well as the rebound.

"Maybe I had too much time, I had something set on my mind but I changed my mind at the last second and he made a great play," Gomez said. "I may lose a little sleep tonight but that's part of the game."

Iginla extended his point streak to an NHL season-high 16 games with an assist on Marc Savard's first-period goal. Iginla, who has 12 goals and 14 assists in the stretch, tied Gary Suter and Gary Roberts for the Flames' franchise record.

Jason Arnott had the other goal for New Jersey, 2-5-1 in its last eight.

Derek Morris scored for Calgary, unbeaten in five games (3-0-2). Savard's goal extended his points streak to 10 games.

The Flames pulled even with the San Jose Sharks for eighth place in the Western Conference. Calgary also moved within two points of seventh-place Colorado, setting up a key home game with the Avalanche on Tuesday night.

"It's a good hard-fought point," Iginla said. "We knew New Jersey would be hungry, they had lost a couple already on this road trip and they're one of the best teams in the league."

Arnott made it 2-1 on a power play at 11:56 of the second. Brendan Morrison beat Clarke Wilm on a faceoff and drew the puck back to Arnott, whose slap shot from the blue line beat Brathwaite.

Morris put the Flames ahead 2-0 at 6:26 of the second when, shortly after a Devils penalty, he fired a knuckler from the blue line that went through a crowd and past Brodeur.

The Devils are 1-2-1 on a seven-game road trip and will head to Hilton Head, S.C. for a three day break. New Jersey doesn't play again until Friday night at Atlanta.

"We've had a rough go of it lately so I guess we're satisfied with the point," Gomez said. "If you've been a Devil fan the last couple games, you can't have been too happy."

New Jersey center Petr Sykora missed his third straight game with the flu.
