BOX SCORE
DETROIT (Ticker) -- Ken Wregget concluded a perfect exhibition slate with 25 saves and Kris Draper scored 35 seconds into a three-goal second period as the Detroit Red Wings blanked the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-0. Signed as a free agent on July 9, Wregget did not allow a goal in going 3-0 in the preseason. He combined for 11 saves over the first two periods before making 14 in the third. Draper broke a scoreless tie in the opening minute of the second period when his shot off a faceoff deflected off defenseman Mark Eaton and got past John Vanbiesbrouck. Igor Larionov and Darryl Laplante scored 2 1/2 minutes apart near the end of the period to cap the scoring. Vanbiesbrouck made 19 saves for the Flyers, who lost star defenseman Eric Desjardins after he took a puck in the mouth late in the third period. The Red Wings were 7-1-1 in exhibition play and open the regular season on Saturday against Buffalo. Philadelphia played most of the preseason without star forwards Eric Lindros and John LeClair, going 2-6. After wrapping up a stretch of six games in as many days, the Flyers open the season Saturday against Ottawa.
