SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -- Grant Fuhr earned his 400th career victory Friday night by slowing the leading team in the Eastern Conference. Fuhr became the sixth NHL goaltender to reach the milestone when Derek Morris scored 20 seconds into overtime, giving the Calgary Flames a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers.
Fuhr made 29 saves in the penalty-filled game and improved his career record to 400-286-113. He needs 48 victories to surpass the NHL record of 447 held by Terry Sawchuk. Colorado's Patrick Roy is the only active goalie with more wins at 416. "I enjoy the game," Fuhr said. "I have fun. I might as well enjoy it while it lasts." Valeri Bure scored a pair of power-play goals for Calgary, giving him eight goals this season. His brother, Florida right wing Pavel Bure, missed his fourth consecutive game with a strained groin. "It's always nice anytime Pavel is not out there," Fuhr said, "because it makes for a very long night." Jaroslav Spacek scored twice for the Panthers, but they were just 1-for-8 on power plays. "Your best penalty-killer has always got to be your goaltender," Flames coach Brian Sutter said. "He made some big-time saves tonight, especially as the game went on." Morris took a pass from Cory Stillman and angled a wrist shot past Trevor Kidd for the winning goal, his second goal of the season. Pavel Torgaev also assisted. The loss was the first for the Panthers at home, where they're 4-1-1. Kidd fell to 4-1-1 despite stopping 34 shots. "They haven't played great hockey lately, but they worked extremely hard tonight," Kidd said. "They were the harder-working team. Give them credit." Calgary earned just its second victory in nine games. Sutter criticized the Flames publicly after their last game, a 7-1 loss to St. Louis. "I don't call it criticism. I call it honesty," Sutter said. "There's a major difference. I guess they responded to it." The Panthers, who took the first nine shots, squandered three power-play chances before converting on a 5-on-3 advantage. Spacek took a pass from Robert Svehla and scored on a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle at 14:41 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. When the Panthers received a pair of simultaneous two-minute minors, Calgary quickly scored the tying goal. Bure stuffed in a rebound to make the score 1-1. Bure scored another power-play goal early in the second period to put the Flames ahead 2-1. Pavel Bure watched his brother's goal from the press box. "It's really great," Pavel Bure said. "It's really good to see him be successful." Said Flames forward Bill Lindsay: "I guess you could say they've got great genes in that family."
