Williams sisters roll into doubles final

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Venus and Serena Williams earned swift revenge over Martina Hingis on Thursday, teaming up to beat their Swiss rival and her partner Monica Seles and reach the final of the Australian Open women's doubles.

The American sisters beat Hingis and Seles 7-5, 6-2 in their semifinal showdown after Hingis had knocked them both out of the singles to join Jennifer Capriati in Saturday's final.

Hingis followed her victory over Serena in Wednesday's quarterfinals by scalping Venus earlier on Thursday in their semifinal.

But the sisters' revenge in the doubles prevented Hingis from reaching her fifth straight final with five different partners.

The Williams sisters will play Lindsay Davenport and Corina Morariu in Friday's final after the American pair beat the second seeded Australian Nicole Arendt and Ai Sugiyama of Japan 7-5, 6-2.

Australia's Todd Woodbridge, who, along with Mark Woodforde, formed half of the greatest doubles team in history, reached the men's final with his new partner Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden, who had won two previous Australian Opens with different players.

They beat Australia's Wayne Arthurs and Yugoslavia's Nenad Zimonjic 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 and will play Zimbabwe's Byron Black and Germany's David Prinosil who defeated Americans Justin Gimelstob and Scott Humphries 7-6, 6-1.
