WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tangela Smith scored 22 points and Yolanda Griffith added 21 as the Sacramento Monarchs beat the Washington Mystics 84-69 Friday night. Ticha Penicheiro had a season-high 12 assists with no turnovers for Sacramento (7-4), which remained unbeaten in five meetings with the Mystics. After losing three of their first four games, the Monarchs have won six of their last seven. Nikki McCray scored 19 points for Washington, which lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. Washington had no answer for Griffith and Smith, the Monarchs' 6-foot-4 forwards who combined to shoot 18-of-25 from the field. Smith did not miss a shot until less than 14 minutes remained. Sacramento broke it open late in the first half when the Monarchs held Washington scoreless for 4:33. Katy Steding hit a pair of 3-pointers during Sacramento's 12-0 run that put the Monarchs ahead 32-27 with 3:33 left in the half. Washington cut Sacramento's lead to 53-51 when the Mystics went on a 12-3 run with 13 minutes remaining.
